All classes will start with a warm-up that focuses on stretching and toning. Each class is 55 minutes in duration. Dance is a beautiful expression, free from any language barriers. To facilitate a meaningful connection with each song, the instructor will provide an age-appropriate explanation of each dance’s cultural significance as well as an English translation of the lyrics. Taal Tots (3-6 yrs.) The focus is on coordination of simple feet and hand movements, developing an understanding of rhythm and how it applies to Indian dance, and on having fun in class! Taal Boys (5-14 yrs.) Who said boys can’t have fun too? This class will bring out the bollywood star in your boy as you see him rock, jive and tap his feet to the latest tunes, just like the pro’s! They’s learn a combination of hip-hop, salsa and jazz routines combined with old-time authentic Indian dance steps inspired from bhangara, garba, classical and various other pieces. Taal Kids (7-11 yrs.) As in the Taal Tots class, students will learn some of the same elements, yet at a deeper level. The importance of facial gestures will also be introduced. We will work on emphasizing the importance of body posture and the defining of movements to rhythm and beat. Taal Juniors (Ages 11-18 yrs.) With a stronger hold on discipline and abilities, these students will learn to master the most complicated dance moves and make them look simple and natural. They will also learn the various aspects of stage performance, spatial awareness and utilization and techniques on becoming a versatile performer. Taal Adults (Ages 19+) It’s never too late to learn! Here’s your chance to learn that YOU TOO can teach your body to dance with style, grace, rhythm and appeal to a wide variety of Indian dances, from bollywood to hip-hop to semi-classical.
